Welcome to the Capital of Texas!
Situated in the middle of the state and less than 200 miles
from San Antonio, Dallas and Houston, Austin is annually
listed among the various "Best Of..." lists as an
exceptional city to live, play and prosper in. Life in
Austin is a combination of a laid-back attitude, mixed in
with the trendy and high-tech. With a beautiful rolling Hill
Country, 300 days of sunshine and an average temperature of
68 degrees, it is no wonder many cars in Austin sport a
bumper sticker that declares: "On Earth as it is in Austin."There is a general
perception in Austin's black community that this town is a
less than ideal city to live in. The reasons for that
perception (and any possible solutions) are multi-layered.
The austin blackpages were created to address this issue.
While certainly not like an Atlanta, Dallas or a Houston, it
is our contention that Austin has plenty of positive
lifestyle options for everyone — black folk included. It is
our mission to find and highlight those options for you — we
choose to be a part of the solution.
