It is our objective to be more
than just a passive listing of information. We fully embrace
the role of advocates and we are committed to doing what it
takes to facilitate the process of keeping as much of the
$630,000,000,000 – that’s BILLION – dollars circulating in
the black community for as long as possible. It has been
said that of the more than $630 billion we spend every year,
$611 billion of it (97%) is spent with non-black owned
businesses.
97% spent with non-black owned businesses.
Wow.
And not that we are asking you to boycott all other
businesses and only spend your money with BOOM
companies and services. But imagine the possibilities for
wealth and job creation within our community if each of us
set a modest goal to spend just 20% of our annual income
with a BOOM business or organization. Or an even
simpler goal, when you need to make a purchase, log on to
the austin blackpages and see if it is possible for
you to patronize a BOOM business.
If there is any thing we can do to help you as a consumer
support Central Texas BOOM businesses and
organizations, please
let us know.
On the other side of working to keep our dollars circulating
in our community, we are also committed to serving as a
learning resource for entrepreneurs and business leaders. In
addition to providing insightful content and news in our
Business Center,
we aggressively seek opportunities to partner with other
entities looking to target black business owners and leaders
with financial and technical assistance.
It has also been said (probably by the same person who said
we spend 97% of our income outside of our community) that
nine out of every 1,000 black folks own their own business.
In the general population, that number is 64 out of every
1,000. Whatever the austin blackpages can do to help
increase those numbers in Central Texas, we will. |
